Why Men’s Hormones Are Off—and How It’s Affecting All of Us
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about men—and how modern shifts in hormone health and gender dynamics aren’t just affecting them, but us as women too. It’s a conversation that’s been on my mind, and I think it’s time we talk about it.
Estrogen Dominance Isn’t Just a Women’s Issue
When we hear "estrogen dominance," we often think of women’s health, right? But here’s the thing—men are increasingly dealing with estrogen dominance too, and it’s affecting their health in ways many don’t realize.
A lot of men today are struggling with higher estrogen and lower testosterone. And guess what? This imbalance is quietly contributing to issues like:
Enlarged breast tissue (gynecomastia)
Erectile dysfunction
Infertility
Increased cancer risk (especially prostate)
Mood changes, including depression
The rise in estrogen among men is quietly ramping up, and we’re not talking about it enough. Have you noticed this shift in men around you?
What’s Causing This?
A big factor in estrogen dominance among men is environmental toxins. Endocrine-disrupting chemicals and xenoestrogens (synthetic chemicals found in plastics, pesticides, and even personal care and household products) are mimicking estrogen in the body, disrupting hormone levels in both men and women.
Alcohol, too, is a major contributor to higher estrogen levels. Excessive drinking can really mess with the balance between estrogen and testosterone, leaving men feeling off-balance physically and mentally.
The Bigger Picture: How Society Is Shifting
This isn’t just a hormonal issue—it’s also a reflection of deeper societal shifts. We’ve seen the rise of the modern feminist movement, encouraging women to step into more masculine roles and cultivate a sense of independence that makes them feel like they can do it all on their own, which, in many ways, has been empowering.
But here’s the thing: as women embrace more assertiveness and independence, men are left trying to figure out where they fit in. This growing “I can do it all on my own” energy that many women are embodying today is unintentionally pushing men into more passive, backseat roles.
This shift in dynamics is creating a ripple effect on both sides—women are being pushed into overdrive, while men find themselves increasingly disconnected from their natural roles as providers, protectors, pursuers, problem solvers, and leaders.
P.S. If this topic hits home and you’re feeling the weight of doing it all, you’re not alone. The Mind Body Hormone Refresh is a self-paced journey I created to help women like you reconnect to your feminine rhythm, release burnout, and restore balance—physically, emotionally, hormonally.
Losing Each Other in the Push to Do it All
This imbalance is taking a toll on both men’s and women’s health. For women, being disconnected from their femininity leads to stress, burnout, and hormonal imbalances. On the other hand, for men, it’s about losing their sense of purpose. Men are naturally wired to provide, protect, and lead, and when they feel disconnected from these roles, it can lead to frustration, confusion, and a lack of motivation. Over time, this manifests physically as heightened cortisol levels, lower testosterone, and mental health struggles like anxiety and depression.
The impact extends into our relationships, naturally. When both partners feel depleted and out of sync with themselves, intimacy fades, communication breaks down, and a sense of emotional distance creeps in. It’s a quiet kind of imbalance—one many of us are feeling, but few are talking about.
So, Why Does This Matter?
The health of men is just as important as the health of women. It affects all of us—relationships, families, and even communities. The truth is, we’re all interconnected, and when one side of the equation is out of balance, it impacts the other.
What Can We Do?
We need to bring more awareness to men’s hormonal health and start supporting them in a more balanced way. It’s about paying attention to environmental factors (like reducing exposure to xenoestrogens), providing their bodies with what they need for proper detoxification, supporting methylation, and really considering the mental and emotional impacts of these shifts in gender roles.
Men need to feel empowered in their masculinity, just as women need to feel empowered in their femininity. It’s all about balance—both in hormones and in our relationships.
So here’s the invitation:
Start noticing.
Notice how the men in your life are doing—really doing.
Notice how your own energy feels in relationship to theirs.
Because this isn’t just their issue. It’s all of ours.
With love,
Evelyn
